about

I know I keep releasing stuff. But this lockdown thing has been like the early 80s for me. I don't think I ever felt more creative.

Anyway...

This one ended up being about missing friends. It just has that 'Summer's over' type vibe too. Wistful. Ambient. Low key. It's long because I'm unhurried these days and like to leave spaces to make up for all those years I never did.
I'd recommend leaving it rolling gently in the background like a simmering stew. Occasionally something will bubble to the surface...

Tech stuff: this is a GR-1 album. I love the thing. I've been pretty much obsessing over it since I got it, using nothing else except in conjunction with it, well, except P3, Oto BAM, DD-20, VF-1 etc..

One of its properties has been to reconnect me with some old recordings, of old friends. Especially poignant were guitar loops and phrases from Phil. Once I turned a strum into an ethereal drone, the theme was set. The granular process can shift parts of phrases around, which is kinda wonderful when working with old loops.

You may have noticed: I've done about four versions so far. All I can say is it feels worth getting right. I will try and make this the last, although obviously I could keep changing it forever...

Matt's flute is in here and quite a lot of Phil's guitar. At least one Headshock track is given the ultra-slow treatment and there are recordings I've made of review gear, on location in China and Scotland, random stuff I've collected. The GR-1 has inspired me more than any single piece of gear in years. I get it Simon!

Although it says Wily E Peyote, it's like JK Rowling writing as Benjie Mouse or something, you know what I'm sayin'?
