about

I'm probably not the best judge, but I think this one is quite good.

Before the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown I had a week in Scotland with a good buddy. He took photos (e.g. the cover) and I recorded lapping lochs, frenetic streams, birds and fog. While we were largely oblivious, my wife was at home watching the news and fearing the end of the world was nigh.

The audio recordings form the backdrop of this, over which I improvised some tracks over April, May and June. Like everyone else I've had a lot of time on my hands so have spent much of it in the studio.

The whole thing is meant to be a single 1.5 hour piece but for convenience (and Bandcamp limits) I opted for three parts. I quite like this three part thing, like 3/4 of a double album or something; I did the same with Accidental Hermit.

Instruments used include Synthi AKS, Lyra-8, Hydrasynth (I worked on the Hydrasynth review while in Scotland), Moog Prodigy and Minimoog, plus various pianos, sequencers, drum machines and loopers. There's even a mini tribute to Edgar Froese's Aqua in there somewhere towards the end, which happened by happy accident.

If I can work out how to do it, I'll include an mp3 of the three tracks pasted together (you might need to rename it from an mp4 ;)

However, all musical niches are considered fair game and failure is deemed more noble than non-participation. ... more
